B1
A series of labor droids built by AccuTronics, the B1 was designed to perform heavy-lifting and manipulatory tasks. The B1 had become a necessary part of most spaceports, where it was used to load and unload bulk freighters and other cargo ships. The 1.5-meter droid was programmed to respond to the simplest of commands, and was incapable of learning from its environment. This eliminates the need for periodic memory wipes, reducing the operating costs associated with it.

B-12 Transport
One of the few specialty starship designs produced by Kuat Drive Yards, the B-12 was designed to transport bacta. Based on the designs of the Lancer-class frigate, the B-12 measured 238 meters in length, and required a crew of 26 to operate. It could transport up to six passengers and 600,000 metric tons of bacta. Many of these ships were modified to have a concealed laser cannon, especially at the height of the Galactic Civil War, to protect the ships from being hijacked. The central fuselage of the B-12 was made up of sixteen pressurized, temperature-controlled spheres, in which the bacta was transported to prevent spoiling.

B1-series Battle Droid
The armed footsoldiers of the Trade Federation, these thin droids were the mainstay of the Federation's armed forces. As in other situations that required a show of force, the Trade Federation spared no expense in designing these droids to fight their battles. The Federation's droids were built by Baktoid Combat Automata to resembled the dissicated skeleton of the Geonosians who were contracted to manufacture them. This fearsome shape stood 1.91 meters tall, was plated with white armor, and could carry and operate a wide range of weapons. A backpack mounted to the droid contained much of the droid's sensors and communications gear. They could be deployed in massive numbers by using MTT tanks to bring them to the battle site. The droids were stored in a compact, fetal position in long racks aboard the MTT, and were placed on the battlefield until a Droid Control Ship activated them. If there opponent started to turn back the battle droid force, they were programmed to call in reinforcements, such as destroyer droids.
The Neimoidians placed battle droids in every area of their military, and distinguished their various uses by color. Red-shouldered droids served as security teams, blue-colored battle droids served as pilots, while yellow-shouldered droids were part of the command structure. Plain white droids were infantry and soldiers. At the height of its power, it was rumored that the Trade Federation had no idea exactly how many battle droids were under its command. Although the Trade Federation was ordered to stop production of these droids in the wake of the Battle of Naboo, production continued in secrecy on the planet Geonosis.
Several improvements were made over the next several years, during which time the B1-series served as the design basis for the B2-series Super Battle Droid. The primary updates involved making the B1 Battle Droid more autonomous by eliminating the need for a Droid Control Ship and installing new programming. Up to 200 battle droids could be controlled in the field by a living commander using a specially-programmed datapad. During the height of the Clone Wars, echolocation systems were added to augment the directional sense of the battle droids. Despite the ease with which these droids could be produced and deployed, B1-series battle droids were simple-minded automatons that needed constant input on what they were supposed to do, and intense battle action tended to drain the internal batteries quite rapidly.
It was estimated that the number of battle droids in the Separatist armed forces numbered in the quadrillions, with billions upon billions of other war machines - including Vulture Droids, Tri-Fighter, Hailfire Droids, and other forms of space- and land-based automata - augmenting that number. However, many beings openly questioned this number, since the production facilities of the Confederacy of Independent Systems seemed unable to produce droids in sufficient numbers. Other research indicated that there wasn't enough natural resource in the galaxy to support the production of such a large droid force, further putting these estimates in question.
With the end of the Clone Wars, all B1-series battle droids were issued orders to deactivate, as part of Darth Sidious' plan to consolidate military power and ensure the loyalty of his troops.

Despite his proficiency with lightsabers, Baas prefered to use a simple staff which he wielded adeptly against any lightsaber. He augmented the staff's strength through the Force. He was greatly troubled by the increase of Sith power, especially because it was his former student that was at the heart of the disturbance. He felt that he had failed, and returned to Coruscant after the capture of Ulic Qel-Droma. He hoped to sway the former Jedi back from the Dark Side, but was foiled by the appearance of Exar Kun. Kun challenged him to a duel, and Baas was brutally slain by his former student on the floor of the ancient Senate Chamber.
Thousands of years later, the first set of students at Luke Skywalker's Jedi praxeum on Yavin 4 claimed to have witnessed the spirit of Vodo-Siosk Baas, when they tried to drive off the spirit of Exar Kun. Kun's spirit had trapped Luke's life-energy in a place where no one could reach him, and only the combined efforts of all the Jedi students was able to defeat Kun. His strength, when combined with that of the students and Luke himself, destroyed what was left of Exar Kun and freed Luke from his control. Tionne Solusar later discovered that Master Vodo might have found a way to store his consciousness in the Tedryn Holocron.

Baba, Ponda
This Aqualish thug was perhaps best-known as the being who assaulted Luke Skywalker in the Mos Eisley Cantina, just prior to the Battle of Yavin. Ponda Baba was a member of the lower Quara of Aqualish, having fingered hands instead of webbed ones. He was known as an average-skilled smuggler, never really gaining any notoriety. He worked for a while with the Grueshite arms dealer Jothel Merritt, until he met up with a bounty hunter named Jodo Kast on Truuzdann. There, he met Doctor Evazan, and the two of escaped the bounty hunter's notice. Once free of pursuit, Ponda Baba and Evazan continued smuggling, eventually gaining the rights to Han Solo's old smuggling routes from Jabba the Hutt. This led them to be in the cantina when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker entered. Evazan decided that Luke was easy prey, not realizing that Obi-Wan was a Jedi Knight. When Evazan got in over his head, Ponda Baba moved in to help, and had his arm severed by Kenobi's lightsaber. He and Evazan fled the cantina and Tatooine, eventually setting up residence in a rocky castle on Ando. There, Ponda Baba made a deal with Evazan: Baba would keep the Andoan authorities off their backs if Evazan promised to move Baba's mind into a non-disfigured Ando body. As Evazan neared success in his quest to transfer a mind from one body to another, he lured an Andoan senator to the castle and trapped him in the machine. He strapped Ponda Baba in and turned it on. Unfortunately for Ponda Baba, the machine worked in reverse. Instead of Ponda Baba's mind going into the senator's body, the senator's mind was placed into his. The mind of Ponda Baba ceased to exist; his body was destroyed when the senator exploded a thermal detonator in the castle. Evazan escaped, however.

Babo
This yellow-eyed Bothan Admiral served in the naval forces that defended his homeworld of Bothawui, during the years following the Swarm War. Admiral Babo was dispatched as part of The Confederation war fleet that was sent to Kashyyyk, during the Battle of Kuat, to apprehend Jacen Solo and the Galactic Alliance's Fifth Fleet. The Confederation's forces also included ships from Corellia, Commenor, and Hutt Space, and found themselves fighting alongside the Wookiees and Jedi Knights who were defending Kashyyyk.
This combined force had Solo's flagship, the Anakin Solo, and the entire Fifth Fleet outnumbered and outgunned, and would have destroyed them if Alema Rar hadn't surreptitiously arrived in the system. Drawing on the power of the Dark Side of the Force, she influenced Admiral Babo to break his formation and rush the Alliance forces. This created a huge gap in the surrounding force, giving the Fifth Fleet a chance to escape.
Upon being questioned in the wake of the battle, Admiral Babo explained that he was acting to call the bluff of Solo and Admiral Atoko, who had tried to rush the line. His explanation was accepted at face value, but many worried that they had let a chance to end the greater war slip away. He then brooched the subject of the status of the Wookiees and the Jedi Order, and eventually agreed that all sides would remain unallied and neutral in the coming war against the Galactic Alliance. Admiral Babo did not rule out the possibility of certain "extralegal" Bothan actions against Jacen Solo, and received tacit agreement from the Jedi for any action the Bothans chose to take.

Bacara
This was one of the many clone commanders who served the Grand Army of the Republic during the height of the Clone Wars. Bacara was unusual in that he found it difficult to speak to his fellow clones in the Mando'a language, a result of his training under Cort Davin. Thus, Bacara's speech was peppered with the dialect of Concord Dawn, which tended to isolate him from other clones. Nevertheless, he was an outspoken and independent individual. These traits led to Bacara becoming one of the first clone troopers to be trained by Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi, and he later became the leader of the 21st Nova Corps and the Galactic Marines. As such, Bacara participated in the Battle of New Bornalex, testing out a new trooper suit that ultimately failed during battle. Bacara and his troopers used sheer muscle power to defeat their Separatist foes, earning the Marines a ferocious reputation. In the wake of the First Battle of Coruscant, Bacara - officially known as Commander 1138 - was dispatched to Mygeeto, where he served under Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi. However, when Darth Sidious revealed his true nature and killed Mace Windu, he sent out communications to the various clone commanders to execute Order 66. Upon hearing the order, Bacara ordered his troops to open fire on Ki-Adi-Mundi, utterly destroying the defenseless Jedi Master. Bacara later revealed that he had hestiated upon receiving the command to carry out Order 66, but only because he was so devastated by the depths of the Jedi Order's betrayal of the galaxy.

Bacca
This ancient Wookiee was hunting in the Shadowlands of his homeworld of Kashyyyk, many millennia before the Battle of Yavin, when an alien starship crashlanded in the jungle. Although the crew was killed, Bacca recognized that their technology was still capable of causing great damage to the forest and his people. He took debris from the downed starship and fashioned a great sword, that later became known as Bacca's Ceremonial Blade, as a reminder to his people and future generations that trust must be given cautiously, and only to those who have earned it.
(KOTOR)
Bacca's Ceremonial Blade
This unique Wookiee weapon was wielded by Zaalbar, during the Great Sith War. It wasfirst created by Bacca, from the debris of the first non-Wookiee starship to ever visit Kashyyyk. The blade passed from generation to generation as a reminder that trust should be given cautiously, until it was believed to have been broken by the Wookiee chieftain Rothrrrawr many years before the Great Sith War. The event occurred when Rothrrawr underestimated a beast in the Shadowlands and lost the blade in the beast's hide. The hilt was then kept as a symbol of leadership, passed from chieftain to chieftain until the blade was found by Zaalbar. Zaalbar then reassembled the entire blade, restoring the Ceremonial Sword to its former state.

Baco, Parella Jiramma
This Hutt crimelord was one of Popara's biggest rivals during the last decades of the Old Republic. After the institution of the New Order, Parella became something of a business partner with Popara, working from his base on Nar Shaddaa when business required them to work together. Known as a shrewish individual with a nasty streak, Parella was an athletic Hutt who preferred to hunt whirlbats on Nal Hutta instead of lounging in the leisure of ill-gotten gains. However, Parella recognized that an alliance with the Anjiliac clan would be beneficial to his own endeavors. However, instead of currying favor from Popara, Parella focused his efforts on creating an alliance with Mika, Popara's youngest offspring. When Popara was murdered and Mika fled Anjiliac Towers, Parella decided to rethink his strategy, and chose to endear himself to Zonnos by hunting down Popara's killer. Parella was known as The Hunter for good reason: he was one of the few Hutts who actually left his lair to hunt down his prey, which was often the beings who had tried to swindle him. Using modified training remotes, Parella would locate his quarry. Then, wearing a full-body suit of Hutt battle armor, Parella would confront his opponents and challenges them to combat. The Hutt battle armor was as much for protection as for diversion, since many beings failed to anticipate Parella's speed while wearing the heavy armor. Tiny microrepulsors in the armor made it lighter and more manevuerable, allowing Parella to attack with vigor and force.

Bacta
A rejuvenatory fluid that circulates healing bacteria around a wound to speed recovery, bacta was originally created by the Vratix. The fluid contained living organisms that help speed a patient's recovery by latching onto a wound and aiding in the regeneration process. It was first created by the Vratix, on Thyferra, by combining the chemical kavam with the organic lotion alazhi. The small human population on Thyferra was placed in charge of two corporations, Zaltin and Xucphra, and their small human management teams controlled huge populations of Vratix laborers. When Palpatine became Emperor, he decreed that the two corporations would be the sole providers of bacta for the galaxy, giving them a monopoly on its production but indebting them both to the Empire. Because of the monopoly and the prices they could charge, the corporations created an export-quality bacta and a Thyferran version. The Thyferran version was much more potent than its export version, which had lesser healing properties to drive up the demand. During the early years of the New Republic, Ysanne Isard tried to cripple the Republic by restricting the availability of bacta in two ways: first, she let loose the Krytos virus on Coruscant; second, she took control of the planet Thyferra. The Republic began taking great strides to preserve its supply of bacta, including reclaiming any unused bacta from patients who were immersed in a bacta tank. This practice continued for another 15 to 20 years until bacta production could be fully re-established under New Republic auspices. There was a rumor of a band of renegade Twi'lek pirates who would immerse their captives in bacta during interrogation sessions. They would then run electricity through the bacta, torturing their victims to the point of death, and then remove the electricity. They would allow the bacta to heal the victim, then start the electricity again.

This device, developed during the Galactic Civil War, allowed field medics to save more lives by getting them into bacta as soon as possible.
(LOE)
Bacta War
This was the name given to the events leading up to, and including, the Battle of Thyferra. It was during this time that the fledgling New Republic realized that the galaxy needed a steady supply of bacta in order to operate, until a truce could be reached with the Imperial remnants. Historians trace the start of the Bacta War to the point at which Rogue Squadron resigned its commission from the New Republic, following the liberation of Coruscant from Ysanne Isard. The Rogues then began to raid bacta shipments and production facilities, stealing the rejuvenating fluid for use on Coruscant and other credit-poor worlds which required it. Isard retailiated by destroying worlds that accepted the bacta, then murdering the Vratix workers who created it. As the Rogues struck from their base on a space station in orbit around Yag'Dhul, Isard took more losses. The stakes were raised when Isard learned that the Rogues passed through the Alderaan system, ostensibly to through off pursuit, but actually to meet with Talon Kaarde. Isard then leased the Aggregator in hopes of catching them. This tactic resulted in the loss of the Corrupter, and the Aggregator was badly damaged, as the Rogues proved to be more than a match for her tactics. The battle was influenced on both sides by the information of Melina Carniss, who had been acting as a double agent under Talon Kaarde. The Rogues took the next step, persuading Captain Sair Yonka to defect and bring the Avarice into the New Republic's fleet. Isard retaliated, and sent the Lusankya and the Virulence to destroy the Rogues' base at Yag'Dhul. Once again, the Rogues had enough warning to prepare a defense, and Booster Terrik's planning paid off. False weapons placements throughout the Rogues' location led the Lusankya to believe she was under attack from an immense force, and she fled when the Virulence interposed itself between the station and the Super-class Star Destroyer. The Virulence was captured by Terrik, renamed the Freedom, and turned over to Yonka to command at the Battle of Thyferra. That battle marked the end of the Bacta War.

Badure, Alexsandr
An old acquaintence of Han Solo, Badure was a veteran of the Old Republic's military, having served in the Twi'lek Spice Conflict, the Corellian Territories Engagements, and the Outer RIm Wars. After retirement, Badure went to work as a mechanic at the Imperial Academy, and it was here that he met Han Solo, who was training as a cadet. After leaving Imperial service, Badure worked on and off with Han and Chewie, and even saved them during the blown Kessel run that got them into trouble with Jabba the Hutt. Chewie carried a life-debt to Badure from that point on, which was repaid years later on the snowy slopes of Dellalt.
In the interim, Badure found himself down on his luck, and was forced to do contract work in the mines of Dellalt, where he met Lanni and Hasti Troujow. He was reunited with Han and Chewbacca on Rudrig about two years before the Battle of Yavin, where Badure and Hasti Troujow were trying to begin their search for the Queen of Ranroon. He asked Han for transport, but Han initially refused, claiming that he was finally solvent and didn't want to risk losing any more credits. Badure eventually decided to tell Han about his knowledge of the Queen of Ranroon, and Han agreed to help him find the ship, for a share of the spoils.
They managed to return to Dellalt, but were apprehended by J'uoch's thugs and forced to walk to the ship on foot. Once they learned that the cargo hidden within the Queen of Ranroon had been hidden in the vaults of the Dellaltian Bank and Currency Exchange, they were dismayed to find that the "treasure" was little more than raw materials that Xim had planned to stockpile for his war effort. However, Badure was more than happy to accept a job as a transport agent for Skynx and his university.
The dating of Han Solo's involvement in locating the Queen of Ranroon is implied in an article on New Year Fete Week in the Star Wars Adventure Journal, issue 5.

Baffle
This BFL-series labor droid greeted Han Solo and Droma, after they landed on Ruan in search of Droma's family. Han believed that the droid was Bollux, but Baffle claimed no knowledge of the Corporate Sector or Doc Vandangante. Programmed for serving as a driver, Baffle could operate virtually any repulsor-equipped vehicle. In reality, Baffle had been working with black-market programming to overthrown the Salliche Ag Corporation, which had been scrapping droids in favor of organic laborers in an effort to develop products which were better suited to the Yuuzhan Vong ecology. With the help of Han and Droma, Baffle was able to override the control signals which were keeping the droids immobile. The droids rose up against their Salliche Ag oppressors and managed to unseat them. Baffle later helped Han and Droma escape Ruan by hiding them in an automated scout collector, which the droid piloted to the spaceport. It was later revealed that the droids on Ruan had a full mythology based around "the long-awaited one, only flesh and blood who would be able to help them." C-3PO discerned that Han Solo had become this being. Note that The New Essential Guide to Droids indicates that Baffle was a BLX General Labor Droid.

Bafforr
This species of semi-intelligent tree was native to Ithor, and was worshipped by the Ithorians. Like a hive mind, the more trees there were in a given area, the more intelligent they became as they intertwined their roots and began to commune. When seven or more trees grew together, the Bafforr achieved a level of sentience. The bark of the Bafforr was smooth and glasslike, and its blue coloration was radiant and luminous, giving the bafforr tree a crystalline appearance. The bark coloration of saplings was a deeper blue than the older trees. The Empire tried to uproot and replant Bafforr trees during the height of the New Order, in an effort to learn from their experiences. This plan met with failure, however, because the uprooted trees lost their communal sentience, and were utterly silent when observed in other locations. During the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy, Corran Horn and Jacen Solo discovered that the pollen of the baffor tree was deadly to the vondunu crab armor worn by the Yuuzhan Vong warriors. They were able to defeat the Vong in a single battle before the effects were learned by the Vong commanders. In retaliation for this usage of bafforr pollen, Deign Lian ordered the destruction of Ithor. All life on the planet, including every bafforr tree, was killed in the attack. The New Republic, however, had taken steps to ensure the survival of the bafforr, and took cuttings and young plants to several worlds, such as Borleais, in an effort to save the tree from extinction.

In order to stisfy her, Bafor altered his declaration, stating that Nardek, Jeru, and Ahsoka would all fight each other. If Ahsoka won, she would gain her freedom. If either of the Wind Raiders won, she would become their property. Although Nardek was a stronger fighter, Ahsoka had her control of the Force, which allowed her to defeat him. Bafor declared that Ahsoka was free to go, since she won the fight without the use of weapons. When she tried to explain that Separatist forces were attempting to take control of Taloraan, Bafor chose to ignore her, although Jeru confirmed her words when he told of a strange ship hiding in the clouds. Bafor still refused to act, stating that the Wind Raiders would harrass the Separatists the same way they harrassed the Denfrandi. Ahsoka then offered Bafor a deal. In exchange for the Wind Raiders' help in defeating the Separatists, Ahsoka would work with the Denfrandi to provide food and supplies. She also promised those warriors who agreed to help her that they would get a good fight. Bafor agreed to this deal, and allowed his warriors to accompany Ahsoka back to Taloraan City, where they were a key part of the Republic's success against the Separatists. When the battle was over and Ahsoka kept her end of the bargain, Bafor made her an honorary Wind Raider.
